Ebbs & Flows

It's human to experience ebb and flow in life: seasons of transition and uncertainty; tilting between self-confidence and self-doubt; shifting levels of energy or productivity; changes in what you need or want. Death and a new life. Life is messy. And beautiful.

The intention I'm working with this week is:

I am flexible and flowing

But here's the thing about being flexible. You don’t have to be flexible to practice yoga.
Part of what attracted me to yoga in the first place was that it pushed my body in ways in which I could experience flexibility for the first time. I would have never considered myself flexible when I was a child. I was the kid in gym class who could never come close to touching her toes. I've come to learn that touching your toes only measures one kind of flexibility, one set of muscle groups. During my training with YogaFit -who has a focus on making yoga accessible for everybody in EVERY BODY- I realized that there are many poses that we will never be able to do given our body make up. Similarly in life, we aren't all dealt the same hand. When it comes to working with yoga poses, maybe you have short arms or tight hips, and no matter how hard you try, you will just never be able to (fill in the pose). But it is up to us to choose how we spend our days. Do we focus on those things we can’t do or that don’t work for us in our body, our mind, our family structure or financial space? Or do we choose to be flexible and flowing?

We can give ourselves a break for that which we can’t do and focus our time and energy on what we DO have. In this difficult time where we are so emphatically feeling the collective sense of loss, struggle, and heartache, it takes real practice to exercise our flexibility and soak in the new ways we are creating community, hope, and love.

I’m sending you lots of love and light today and always!

Molly
