Reminder: Small Actions Make Great Impact
“One of the fundamental principles of yoga: A small action done repeatedly can make an enormous difference.”
~Dr. Timothy McCall
Reminder: it doesn’t have to be all oR nothing. Small actions have a great impact.
The summer schedule at my house so far, has meant a lot longer days and a lot more sugar. It has meant a lot more time with my kids and a lot less structure. All of these things are both wonderful and also equally challenging. As I thought about what I wanted to focus on this week, I felt called to remind myself that it’s all a journey. That means we don’t have to get everything “right” today. We can focus on small steps. Maybe today I will eat the popsicle with my kids, savor the late bedtime, and I also drink lots of water, eat some vegetables, and take a few minutes to meditate.
What small step can you take today to feel your best?
Are you wishing you ate healthier? Can you start each day with a smoothie or add a fruit or vegetable to your breakfast? Are you wishing you were in better shape? Could you do 5 minutes of stretching when you wake up in the morning? Do you wish you had more time for yourself? Can you take 5 minutes to do what fills your cup and really be present in that experience? If there is one thing you are working on or towards, can you take one action today that will help you towards that goal?
On our mat this week, we’ll remind ourselves of the small pieces of our practice that add up to big changes; learning a breath technique that resonates, finding a stretch that eases tension in an achy body part, embracing a few moments of silence in our savasana.
